This past July, I was doing some minor carpentry work and staining trim and wood floors for some landlords in the Logan Square and Humboldt Park neighborhoods in Chicago. The majority of the work I did was for this woman in her early 40s who worked as a crossing guard downtown and owned a 3-flat in Humboldt Park.
During the two months I worked for her I completed tasks ranging from shopping for antique doorknobs, grocery shopping and "puttin' it on Craiggy's List." I was cleaning this weekend, getting rid of old piles of papers and I found this note. It was my first experience being this liaison between this woman and the website http://chicago.craigslist.org. About a week after translating this note into standard craigslist style, she asked me to look for cars for her son. They also made me a note listing all different makes and models, some totally made up or just horribly spelled [I know I have this list somewhere]. That same week after looking for cars her son, she had a request of her own.
"Can you find me a man on craiggy's list? I like to travel. So a good looking man, who likes to travel and take care of a beautiful woman."
I didn't really know what to say and didn't want to offend her, so I asked she draft a note/list like before. I finished the job staining the last apartment and haven't heard from her since, nor did I get her "man" list.
Hey Ben,
Tried emailing you from the g-rad site, but it wouldn't go through b/c your inbox was full...
Very cool blog. But I'd actually like to talk with you about your Interviews Project. Shoot me an email and we'll go from there.
Cheers,
Jennifer G
i hope you included 'nice' where she asked.
