Dream Table

Dream Table, originally uploaded by bfly081.

I am looking for a table and cannot find one. This is very close to my dream table. I either want 50s formica with chrome trim or a barnwood table. Somehow two of my friends have barnwood tables but they are not willing to part with them yet. Oh well. Anyways, keep your eyes out for formica fellow g-radders.

Tomate Volkov: Parte Dos

Volkov, et al, originally uploaded by bfly081.

The Cosmonaut Volkov tomato supposedly is named for the Russian cosmonaut Vladislav Volkov who died during landing.

"The cosmonauts Viktor Patsayev, Georgi Dobrovolsky, and Vladislav Volkov in the Soyuz simulator during their mission training. Originally, they were the Soyuz 11 backup crew, but when Valery Kubasov from the original crew became ill, the crews were changed. Soyuz 11 was launched on June 6, 1971, and docked with the first Soviet space station, Salyut 1 the next day. It was the first time a space station was manned. At the end of their mission, the Soyuz 11 crew returned to Earth, but were found dead in the space vehicle after landing. A critical valve in the descent module had been jerked open as Soyuz 11 de-orbited and bled the cosmonauts' air out into space."

See the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission for more information about the history of space exploration.

British Featherweight

If Geos was a sewing machine, he'd be this one.

Featherweight

Mom is giving me a Singer featherweight she's been using for decoration. In preparation for my sewing machine's arrival I've been looking all over the internet for information on how to replace missing parts. I think I need a new foot pedal.

During my search, I found this little gem of a site: http://www.singer-featherweight.com/ The site is maintained by one Graham Forsdyke, self-proclaimed "purveyor of Singer featherweights to the gentry."

I am thrilled to get my new featherweight, apparently worth around $500. Who wouldn't want to own a sewing machine worth more than their car?
