Hello, everyone. I know you've all been wondering what the whole Roller Girls thing is about. Come and check out our teams this weekend!
I really like Marketplace Money. Kai Ryssdal so amusing and clever. Also, music for his show tends to be really... I don't know... relevant... to something... I like it.
Apparently, everyone's listening (and spelling Kai's name wrong). A google search for Kai "Risdal" reveals that even solipsism-loving Suicide Girls bloggers are tuning in to Marketplace http://suicidegirls.com/members/Left/
Marketplace, along with News & Notes, is one NPR show that I'm really surprised how much I like.
Other shows I like: the Splendid Table (no surprise there), Car Talk, BBC in the morning (those Brits are as obnoxious as Americans! Way to lead those interviewees!)
Shows I haven't gotten into that everyone else seems to love: This American Life
Shows I'm warming to: Diane Rehm Show
Marketplace comes on M-F at 6:30 pm and Marketplace Money comes on Sundays at 11. Not real sure what the difference is. There's also a Morning Report but I imagine that's all stocks.
Here's a little background on Kai. Don't pretend you weren't wondering...

I heart Valentine's Day. It's a perfect fit for me bc I love chocolate, roses, and those old-fashioned valentines. In my mind it's a very creative holiday with those roots in culinary arts, floral-arranging, and printmaking. So I thought I'd start a discussion about it.
Mainly, I'm wondering what people are planning on doing for their friends, family, partners, pets, etc. for Valentine's Day. As a fun little Breakfast-at-Tiffany's proviso I want to know what people are doing for $10 or less.
I'll get the ball rolling with might be the worst idea I've come up with in a while:
A flower arrangement made of folded construction paper.
I am trying to come up with a list of songs related to work for my Roller Derby team. I know there are ton of music junkies reading (Geos)... I need your help guys!
My boyfriend came up with these...
The Clash
Career Opportunities
Dropkick Murphys
Which Side Are You On
Dropkick Murphys
Worker’s Song
Lars Frederickson and the BastardsTo Have and Have Not
Black Flag
American Waste
Billy Bragg
There is Power in the Union
P.S. "9-5" has been vetoed by my teammates.
This is from a project started by a British friend of my friend who's visiting from Germany. Apparently, he drives around taking picture of people's yards ("gardens" in Britain). His comments are hilarious. This garden is one of my personal favourites. Be sure not to miss the truly amazing specimens of fake stone use. Or the Ugly Gardens of Iraq portion of the site.
