Hello everyone!
Here's the flyer for the GRRG first bout. Anyone who wants to purchase pre-sale tickets please let me know.
I have decided after long deliberation that I may not be keeping my hunter green '95 Grand Am (a.k.a. The Green Hornet) for the rest of my life as I had originally anticipated.
I want a flex-fuel car. All those "Go yellow" commercials, no doubt. I am VERY susceptible to advertising.
Maybe they can convert the Green Hornet? I was already planning on installing a manual trasmission when the current trans failed.
Anyways, Cube Neighbor Krys just informed me that he wants an Aston Martin DB7. I didn't know what it was -- I guess it's one of the Bond cars.
It's really, really cute. Reminds me of cartoon talking cars and old Corvettes. And there is nuthin' wrong with an old 'Vette. Nuthin' at all.*
I wouldn't have have pegged Krys for a sports car man. I mean, he has a degree is poli sci, and nothing says "sedan" like poli sci. But I guess everyone has a wild and crazy side.
Anyways, here are the official results of the Grad Asst. Dream Car Poll:
Buckshot - Pre 1980s Land Rover, better yet make that pre-1970s
Laurie - The only one of us to own the car she wants, loves the Honda CRV
Denisa - Looking to buy a PT Cruiser
Sally Tomato - That Prius. I love that little Prius.
Cube Neighbor Krys - Aston Martin DB7
*Actually there are probably a million things wrong with old Corvettes, not the least of which being you can't friggin' drive them in the winter.
I've totally got a crush on Sherlock Holmes. No surprise really, I've always had a thing for tall, thin, intelligent, smokers.
Due to an unexpected volume of surveys, every day at work is spent doing data entry. To ease my suffering and prevent my brain from complete atrophy, I have decided to listen to audiobooks. Sherlock Holmes and other classics can be obtained for free through the Gutenberg Project.
The character of Sherlock Holmes seems to be this great Victorian bohemian. He recalls Oscar Wilde for some reason, though I don't think Wilde is considered Victorian. I almost wish that the stories weren't mysteries, that they were just about S.H., his bipolarity, and his cocaine habit. I also love that Watson, despite being a doctor, never seems to have to work.
Today, I switched to the Da Vinci Code. So far I'm intrigued. There's a masochistic, albino, religious fanatic, all kinds of art historical references, and the reader does accents!
It's nice and fast paced. Reminds me of the good ole' days (always age 12) when I used to read John Grisham and Michael Crichton. I could not get enough of that Rainmaker, boy. I think that was the one..
Anyways... back to work...
I am starting to realize why people are so into sports. I've never considered myself a "sporty" girl. I was a ballerina -- not exactly full contact.
Since becoming a Grand Raggidy Roller Girl, however, I have begun to appreciate the world of sports. I've been watching a series of baseball documentaries, and I went to my first hockey game the other night.
I am getting particular satisfaction from watching the Olympic Winter Games. I don't really care for some of the ski events, and snowboarding isn't that interesting to me. That skeleton is just crazy, and those human interest stories get me every time (Benjamin Raich, I love you!).
Being a skater, I really like watching the speed and figure skating competitions. One of the joys of following figure skating is listening to commentator Dick Button. The man has something snide to say about everyone. I knew I loved him when he said something to the effect of, "I am amazed at skaters these days -- not one of these skaters can do a decent sit spin!"
Ooh! A quick search of the Internet yielded these two sites. Check out them other hilarious Button quotes:

For those of you dying to know more about the man behind the voice, I have provided this excerpt from Button's bio.
"Button is the author of two books, Dick Button on Skates and Instant Skating. He is also an authority on American furniture and decorative arts, and is a past president of the Richmondtown Restoration. In June of 1988, Button received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Buena Vista College."
Ugh. We're supposed to think of a tag line for ourselves to go with our derby names. So far all I've come up with is "Sally Tomato: in jail for tax evasion." No one even gets my name, they're definitely not going to get that. Someone suggested "hotter than salsa..." While I am clearly hotter than salsa*, I kinda wanted something to do with sauce if I was going to go with a food theme. Right. Well, anyways... If anyone thinks of anything before Saturday.
