For those of you who don't know, a diorama is a box with a scene in it. Usually they are constructed in grade school using a shoe box. You may have made a diorama with dino's and exploding volcanoes, or perhaps a mini solar system, for the school science fair. Now is the time to take the diorama to a whole new level (not saying it wouldn't be cool to make a diorama with dinosaurs and exploding volcanoes, because we'd really like to see someone do that!)
Feel free to make your diorama however you like, just as long as your diorama is
a) ready to be hung on a wall
b) no larger than 19 x 25 inches (have you been to fwd>>Space? It's tiny!)
If you would like to light your diorama there are a few electrical outlets available, but the use of those little battery lighting packs (you can buy them at the hardware store) is encouraged! If you absolutely cannot percieve how to hang your outrageous diorama on a wall, just contact us and we may be able to work something out, special.
This event is open to anyone who wishes to participate. There is a small submission fee of $5 per diorama, and if you wish to sell your diorama the profit is yours to keep. Here are a few guidelines:
Please drop off (or mail, for all of you out of staters) your diorama to Fwd Space (120 S.Division Ave., #125, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503) on Saturday April 19th between 10 am and 8pm. If you cannot drop off your diorama on this date, please contact us to make prior arrangements. Diorama submissions must be received no later than 8pm on Saturday April 19th. If you are mailing your dio., please include return postage along with submission fee.
Please include a piece of paper with your diorama that includes your name, contact info., price (if for sale), and title (if there is one). Also be sure to include any special instructions. Please no live animals.
The opening reception for the Diorama-rama show will be Saturday April 26th from 5pm-10pm. We are hoping to have some beverages, snacks, and things of that nature. Anyhow, it is to be a grand affair. We will distribute postcards for this event, as well as posting viewing hours for the week following the reception. Please plan on picking up your work the following Sunday (May 4th) from 11 am-8pm, and once again let us know if that won't work for you.
Thats all then. Let us know if you have a question. Merry diorama making everyone!
