Tamarillo & Kiwano
We picked up a couple of unfamiliar and expensive fruits at Meijer today. Needless to say, it was our curiosity that drove home the sale. Let us save you some money; while the tamarillo was decent (La Kate liked it), the kiwano was very seedy and tasted bitter and sour simultaneously. Both hailed from New Zeeland which made me think of the recently published Omnivore's Dillemma by Michael Pollan. I heard a bit of an interview with the author on NPR a while back and have since been contemplating the effects of our global demands in the name of taste, convenience, and curiosity.
