so its been over almost exactly a year now since i made this 'hiho podcast', but after having trouble getting it to work as a legitimate podcast... i've decided to just go ahead and release it as my first hihocast. in the early minutes of the podcast you will here a blur of songs that have randomly been chose to represent the music on my computer last year. this .mp3 was created using an itunes signature maker. so.... some of this music may be a bit out of date, but its a pretty good representation of what i was listening to and enjoying at the beginning of 2006... a year of which i spent entirely immersed in the world of warcraft. i will have you all know that as of January 22nd, i am no longer a gamer. all my characters have been deleted, and any trace of warcraft has been removed from my computer. /cheer

so. without much further ado. here it is... careful, its a whopper of a file. any suggestions as to how to condense it a bit would be greatly appreciated.

so sarah and i have been working on this puzzle for what seems like forever. at first it wasn't so bad, a corner piece here, section of the house there, the ewe's eyeball overhere... piece of cake. but man, tackling those wool pieces has proven to be a real chore. basically it has come down to systematically trying every single piece on every single other piece, until we've made a match. either way, i've really been enjoying it. the charles wysocki collection is really nice, and i can find a number of his puzzles on ebay for a fair price. also, my mother sent me a really nice holiday number that we can work on once the sheep is done.

so... i guess thats about the most excitement i've had in my life lately. the holidays were really nice, its been really cold the last few days, the cats are beginning to get real cuddly... but thats about it. tonight i decided i'd like to go back to school and become a vet. last week i was sure i'd be a librarian. before that, a dwarven ranger. one day i'll no for sure, but until then i'll just keep studying chinese, saving money, and tending to my lovely new home.

lately the highlights of my weeks have been sundays. every saturday sarah and i wake up early and head out to the second hand market. i've found a favorite stall that has already learned to set aside his photo albums every week for me to look through and purchase for about 100nt a stack. the first couple i've brought home have been a bit too fragile to photo copy, but i've gotten a couple books since that will be really easy to scan, so pretty soon i will have a large collection of vintage taiwanese photos on flickr. im actually really excited about going through them carefully, i've only peeked inside a few of them so far and they look great.

anyhow... its getting late. sarah inspired me to post tonight, otherwise i wasn't really planning on it. i still have 4-5 small videos/posts i have been planning to make but never really got around to doing. maybe something will happen this week and i will start posting again. i guess it depends if the 2.03 WoW patch has lifted the lvl60 cap by tomorrow or not. ok... to bed. love love.

hello hello. as you may have noticed, pepper is finally up and running. hopefully both sarah and i can encourage each other to blog more often. things are finally starting to move in some sort of pattern... life is evening out. we are now subleasing at a co-workers home near songshan train station, on the tenth floor of a building over looking raohe night market and ciyou temple; the only temple in taiwan that worships a <a href="http"//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsu_%28goddess%29">black-faced goddess. i haven't been inside yet, but i promise to take plenty of pictures.

rao he night market is ok. they specialize in a sort of chopped up boiled meat dish that i am still not brave enough to try. its the sort of blacked meat you see working class people eating, spitting bones in a pile on the table in between huge swigs of medicinal liquor. they do have an exceptionally nice pakistan restaurant... although im afraid that at 300nt a meal, its a bit out of our price range. needless to say, i don't like this area as much as wanfang. granted... AC is nice... tv is nice (first tv in several years!)... movie channels... late night awkward bikini variety shows... mail order wife-o-mercials... endless Zhou Xingchi... i can't complain too much. its been even easier to enjoy since i've come to excuse my recent tv addiction as 'cultural investigations'. heh. before i leave in october i promise to record as much as i can off the old boob tube so you can see for yourselves.

so... sarah and i are really looking forward to moving into the rooftop place in southern taipei. we have grand schemes of rooftop gardening, and have been doing plenty of research on rooftop planting/composting ect ect. even more exciting, is the prospects of having my old cat mao back! i miss that rugged old tom soooooooo much! well.. im sleepy, and sarah said we can't go to bed until i post. i used the 'too tired' excuse last night after helping her post in pepper, won't fly again tonight. so, without further ado, here are a few short videos i took one particularly nice night at the old sublet. i miss living on a hill and watching the sunset on my porch. that neighborhood turns amazing colors at night.

hello hello hello hello.
i am taking a bit of a break from my latest addiction, world of warcraft, to try to get my 'virtual life' back on track. i realize i haven't posted in ages. i barely even post on flickr, though recently more than before. in case you don't really know me, i've just recently moved to taiwan where i am patiently waiting for GVSU to send me my degree so i can get a job and (hopefully) stay in the country with my lovely girlfriend sarah. anyhow... i have so much to share. but i've decided that the only way im going to get hiho back on track, is if i start simple and take it slow. so, without further ado, i would like to share with you a video of the sun setting from my balcony.

(edit: she has totally legit sites now in addition to diaryland... very pretty, but under construction.) anyhow... totally going to a party tonight. first portland party. pretty stoked. also, last night i hung out at ground kontrol with daniel. it was rad. i like that place, glad daniels giving games a second chance. also... i pulled a bold move last night. LEFT MY LAPTOP AT JONA'S!!! ON PURPOSE! so, ive realized one of the things that has been wrong with me lately. IM NOT READING! so, last night i got into reading again. i have two books with me at the moment, both of which i will read cover to cover before buying any new books. the first is water mirror by Kai Meyer, book one of the dark reflections trilogy... a lovely german series for children. its really good so far. normally i read books like that in the course of a day, but i was really tired (and a bit tipsey) when i started last night, so i passed out right away, and today i've been uber-busy with UB2. i made a breif cameo in the newest video... you can kinda see me in the mirror.

anyhow... im doing pretty well. staying away from WOW... starting do a little bit of music, working with flash again, getting around town. also... today is christopher's birthday. wish him a good one. yesterday was my grandfathers, the 7th was my sisters sara's , and soon (maybe today) is my cousin bella's. HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYONE! I LOVE YOU ALL! ok... bye bye.

so... i was chatting with ben, and he mentioned that our friend peter brandt of ben & bruno has been podcasting... something i was totally unaware of. this is exactly why his site should be syndicated on g-rad. ha. anyhow. i love his music, and if you remember, i used his tunes in my short documentary for school. so, i totally recommend subscribing. ITS FREE!!! how great is that. i've been meaning to do podcasts for awhile... but this is the first time i've seen this neat itunes subscription service. I am very impressed by it. especially since its free. so... stay tuned for a stationary podcast subscription thingie... peter, i will be asking you about that soon. also, i really appreciate your field recordings of fountains in granada. totally cool... i love them.

so. it was listening to his podcasts from granada, that i realized that I HAVE OTHER FRIENDS IN GRANADA! i've heard so much about granada, i really need to go someday. but. anyways. i've just written sarah a myspace message trying to get a hold of her. she just graduated from BU with a degree in science and VIOLIN! and now she is playing music on the streets of granada with her boyfriend! totally dreamy, i wish i was talented and could join them. so, i thought it would be really amazing if they had happened to see each other... peter recording the sounds of the fountain as sarah and bill tune their instruments! so, i got a hold of sarah's sister on ichat, and found out that she had just gotten back from the Olymics! where she watched her cousin WIN THE GOLD METAL IN THE HALFPIPE COMPETITION! totally crazy! i remember growing up, them mentioning how their cousins were all pro snowboarders. well, now one of them has a gold medal. maybe more, im not even sure. Anyhow... her name is hannah teter, and she just turned 19. it still blows my mind how young some of the olymians are... (is that a word?) i can't imagine that level of achievment/pressure at that age... going away to college was stressfull enough... let alone training for the olymipics.

i dunno. pretty crazy and exciting. and look at this.. TWO blog entries in TWO days! im on a roll. lets hope i keep rolling. cheers...

So... this weeks see's the start of the second season of ultimate blogger 1. i am super stoked. however, this also brings to light a very embarrasing situation. i haven't blogged in FOREVER! so while we have been getting press from newspapers, websites, and radio stations, i have to repeatedly explain to people that i haven't been in 'the right place' to blog for a few months now. the truth is, i have been. i've sit around the house on my laptop nearly 8 hours a day. so why don't i blog? i have no idea. part of it, i believe, is a state of mind. i've kind of witnessed a dip in my mood lately, since returning from taiwan. the kind of dip that you are afraid to share on a website. an overall gloominess i've wanted to hide from people. so, i guess i've been a bit depressed. since moving to portland, there have been so many awesome oppurtunities to shake this depression, and i sort of had. but in the meanwhile, i have totally been exposed to so many awesome things to blog about. shows, art, people, movies, trips to the mountain... i have huge folders on my computer filled with prepared mp4's, mp3's, jpg's and text files to fill a years worth of blog entries... but still i don't blog. its all become too much, it would take all week to cover everything i want to cover. so, i need to just start with a clean plate. start with TODAY. only cover things i have done in the last few days. hopefully this will get me back on track, and i can start living up to the title... 'ultimate blogger' again.

so... i've paid my dues, the website is back up. thats taken care of. unfortunaly this also means my paypal account is back in action. last night i sort of freaked out because i really wanted to listen to some of my old favorite music. archie bell and the drells, joe tex, ike and tina turner.... i needed these tunes to pick me up out of a funk. AND I DIDN"T HAVE IT! it sucks loseing your entire music collection, especially when it is so expansive. i don't know what i do and don't have anymore, and solarseek isn't working again. So, i did something i haven't done in years (outside of mech tables at shows), buy cd's. yup. i went on amazon and ordered 4 yma sumac cd's, then bought her 'miracles' record off of ebay. ha... from croatia. the shipping cost were more than the record. but its worth it, this is a collectors item. and there is a sweet little record player at the place i am staying now, so it will get plenty of revolutions.

anyhow... i am on my way to seattle now. going to stay with sarah for a few days, and project 'series of unfortunate events' at her tutoring center for a lemony snicket reading festival of sorts. they are paying for my bus fare too! so, i have to run. i will blog more later. i am totally feeling it. the blogging spirit is returning. stay tuned for an extensive post on 'giantess fetishes'. its going ot be some hot stuff. also, dudes at vimeo have awarded me and the other UB2 related peoples a bunch more bandwidth to work with, so i am going to start posting way more videos. have a lot of catching up to do.

oh, seattle was so nice! it always is. i wish i could have stayed longer than two days! but i guess thats the way the cookie crumbles, i should have planned better. anyhow, it was really to see sarah, plus i finally got to meet sarah (nedo) and charlies adorable new child (pictures 1 2 3). we didn't have nearly enough time to do the things we were hoping to do, so i am going to have to return soon for a bit of eithiopian eating, brewing/viewing, deadwood watching, story reading fun. we nearly almost didn't get to have pho together! luckily a new pho resteraunt opened at the bus station, so we had our traditional pho meal together before leaving. it was sad, standing in bus stations for 3 hours will always be sad. this station had a really wierd shoot-em-up video game called "target terror" that i think we also have at the gerald r. ford airport in grand rapids. it must be a new fad, having games about shooting terriorists and hijackers in major transportation centers. the game is crazy!! on the trailor it has images of Bush, Osama, and Saddam, followed by a sequence of a player sniping hijackers in the cockpit of a plane taking off, and then shows a plane crashing into the white house. INSANE!!!

anyhow, i don't want to end on that note. stay tuned cause i am going start posting about portland sometime after midnight tonight. lots of exciting things to blog about! im haveing a really good time. miss you all, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!! (check out his awesome flicker page of china pictures. this day last year i was arriving in shanghai to celebrate his birthday! we had so much fun!!) ok. thats it. now for cute baby picture.

notice it is V1.1

that is because i can't find my registration number for protools... so i just randomly choose short mp's for the buttons. those will be replaced soon by other things... including fun little keyboard keys. that way you can play along with the respective MC. also, i think i may have gotten their names confused. anyhow... let me know what you think!

so... this last week has been very weird. i had a very emotional 6 hour night finishing 6 feet under. watch the whole second season of the L word, started Lost, and watched season 4 & 5 of Ab Fab. now i have a big crush on jane horrocks, eddy's secretary 'bubbles'.... as well as being a voice in chicken run and the corpse bride. i don't know what it is about her, but i have a total school boy crush on her (and those crazy outfits she wore).

anyhow... i havne't been posting much lately, been a bit under the weather and overwhelmed with work (and not doing it). so, i thought i'd distract myself with posting. but, im starting to really get worried about finding someone to take my room. so, if anyone knows someone looking for a room, have them call me (616)856-9635. also... i was fooling around with my totally unregistered version of Snapz Pro and made this totally pointless film. if you look closely you'd notice that my desktop now morphs every 5 seconds...

ok... back to my rotoscopeing.

so... i shaved my beard. yes indeed, i was super-duper attached to it, but its my moms birthday today, and i know she would appreciate a clean face on her oldest son. actually, she has even offered to pay me more than 200$ to shave it. so, i guess this was my opportunity to give her a gift much more than i could ever afford. the funny thing is, the next night, i ended up at pats place, which was hosting the overflow traffic of the annual michigan bear convention. if your not hip to the lingo, a bear, is a bit of a large burly gay man... often wearing leather, and always very visibly proud of their chest/facial hair. and there i was... freshly shaven, playing shufflepuck with my new bear friends, no beard on my chin to boast of. i had a great time, but i thought it was pretty ironic. almost like fate wanted to test my commitment to the new clean shave thing. i passed. i will always have my chest hair.

anyhow... i don't have much time to write. need to shower, get to 80's night for a drink, come back and go to bed. but... tonight was really weird. nora and i found what we though was a dead man in front of her apartment (right down the street from mine). we called 911... ambulance and firetrucks arrived, and they announced that he indeed had a pulse. so, it was a relief. but, im embarrassed. i was too scared to touch him, or try to wake him up. all i did was yell "hey sir... are you alright" before calling the cops. there was this really wierd glaze over his face that made me very anxious. i couldn't tell if he was real, or some mean prank/left-over halloween deadman prop. when the cops showed up with more lights, it turned out that the glaze was actually sweat/snot and his mouth was foaming. it was very disturbing. so... don't want to think about it anymore. i tried to take a picture with my camera, thinking i'd probably end up bloggin about it... but ended up only taking a picture (which didn't turn out) of the flashing lights.

in other news, none of my new crazy sweat shirts and winter gear look right on me now that i have removed the burly beard. at least i have an excuse to start wearing the awesome scarf sarah nit for me. so... click on the .gif animation for the video of me shaving. thanks nora for helping! thanks carrie for the trimmers! thanks luke for the music! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!
