Recent Update

there it goes.

can you remind me as to why this controversial.

peoples building?

tv tower?

george | May 8, 2006 4:11 PM

weren't they going to tear down some people's plaza or something? Like an important building or something?

anthony | May 8, 2006 4:59 PM

yes, the torn-down big brown thing is the former "people's palace," which is this huge deal ddr (pre-89-east german) symbolic historical site. they are tearing it down to rebuild some monarch's castle in its place (kaiser.. remember george?), which in turn was destroyed by the socialist republic.... anyway.
and the tv tower is used as a billboard for the deutsche telekom, and the soccer world cup. it's super ugly.

oh right. so is the dominant german culture going pro-kaiser again? and for what reason?

i kind of like the telecom tower. i tend to like needles. and things that are pink.

george | May 9, 2006 2:34 PM

>and for what reason?

i think the idea is to make all of dowtown look like disneyland. castles and all.

>and things that are pink.

my love for the colour pink and the fact that it is branded by the telecom is a constant dilemma for me. g-rad is telecom pink as well.

so kaiserism is consider cute now? it's kitsch?
