when we were traveling through the miami airport a whole wing was dedicated to an art school... there were some nice art. i hope to take some photos when i go back through.
this morning had an authentic dominican meal- fried plantains with red and yellow pepppers. i thought it was pretty good. it tasted kind of like potatos.
i really like it here because you can walk around and not feel out of place. people don't really care that you are white... where when i was in africa everyone noticed or acknowledged it some how. here you can just be.

street light nights
so i have invested in a head lamp since electricity in the dominican is iffy. i have used it the past nights and noticed how much more the bugs are attracted to it. it's like having a huge street light on your head...
however, you can switch it to the red setting the bugs are not attracted to it. it's a nice affect. they knew what they were doing.
i leave for the dominican republic tomorrow morning. we have a layover in miami and then on to santiago. .. 6 hour bus drive after that. yikes! meaning we probably won't get in until 4am tuesday.

so for the next few days i will be camping. this morning i had an encounter with fireants... one little tiny crack in my plastic ziplock bag where i keep my extra food and they found it.
ants got a knack for cracks.

i am traveling this summer... quite a bit, so why not a travel blog of my excursions?
a few weeks ago i was in rwanda, africa. an amazing experience to say the least. i worked on a rural care team dealing with HIV/AIDS pandemic that is spreading everywhere in the world-- not just africa. i'm going to be working on a documentary of our teams experience and hopefully it will come together... some how.
i was home for about a week and i took off again to work for an NGO doing film work. so i'm traveling... last week i was in philly, right now i'm in GA, and on monday i leave for the domincan for a week. i'll be also going to a handful of other places coming up... hopefully i can share some stories and experiences on here... stay tuned.
here is a picture from philly by the art museum where the fictional character rocky once climbed the steps. they used to have a statue of rocky... but since he wasn't real they decided to take it down. now only footprints remain. i don't have a picture of the footprints unfortunatly... just me.
i must now invest in my own digital camera.
