Printers Printing Prints
This Tuesday, March 28, at 7 pm there's an opening at the Calvin Center Art Gallery for the Alumni Print Competition. There's also a gallery talk called "Print as Concept". Yes, I'm shamlessly promoting the show because I have work in it. My stuff is a little older, though. I'm more excited to see Jaun Garcia's piece once it's installed, and I hear that Chris Filippini is cooking up something good. So you should all go, whether you have anything to do with Calvin or not.
This week has been spring break, but I've worked much harder than I normally do painting and moving into a new apartment. It wasn't so bad thanks to help from great friends. This next week I need to focus on a different kind of printing: printing wedding invitations.

Perfecting the Move
Hey, hey. I haven't updated this for while. I've been busy. Making artwork, performing poorly on mid-terms, and doing a little too much of this. Kelly and I found an apartment for when we get married. Next week I'll spend spring break painting and moving, woo-hoo!

Here's a picture from when we showed my family. The odd looking fellow on the left is my father, and no, I didn't catch him in a split-second akward pose, he was doing that little move for a while. It'll probably make more sense if you see his website.
Also, here's a small bit of a big painting I've been working on:

1969/1984
I just finished a video where I intercut a scene from "Stop Making Sense," featuring the Talking Heads, with a scene from "Gimme Shelter," featuring the Rolling Stones. I cut together Satisfaction with Once in a Lifetime. It cuts back and forth from one to the other on the down beat, so some rhythm remains, but not much else. It's a little hard to watch, which I like. I'm not really sure where I'm going with it, but it was just one of those ideas I had that I couldn't let fade away without seeing what it would look like. I think I'll post it here using Vimeo, but I need to figure out how to make it so you have to click it to play it, so it doesn't just start playing right away. Anyone know how to do that?
I'm thinking of calling the video "1969/1984".
Maybe I shouldn't post it online. There are the potential copyright issues, but also I'd like you to all come to the Calvin BFA Show at the end of April. More info on that as it approaches.
Also, here's a painting I made. It's small, 9 x 5 inches, I think:
