Walking Stick

The other night I was getting into my car and I saw something strange on the hood. A walking stick! I hopped out to snap some photos. I've only seen walking sticks a few times in my life, and it's always memorable. They seem to be very rare, but I was thinking about this and it may not be true. They may be as common as, say, a junebug, but they're just so well camoflagued, while junebugs are loud and intrusive.

A walking stick on my hood: an omen?

Also, if you're interested, I've made a new Flickr photo set of artwork I've made in about the last nine months, you can see it here.

Landscapes, mythology

I've been making some new work. I've been interested for a while in using collage and drawing to craft ambiguous mythologies. Lately I've been thinking about the sites, or landscapes, of myth and/or fantasy. Stuff like Narnia, Nevernever Land, or Middle Earth. Or even the distant past.

studio view

Here's a studio view with some stuff I've been working on. The image in the middle is cut out of a National Geographic article from 1965 about the sun. I pasted a piece of text from the article on the image that reads "man on earth is made of secondhand atoms left over from a star that exploded before the sun was born." I love that.

Thank you, Traverse City

The wife and I spent Labor Day weekend camping in Traverse City with my brother and his fiance. It was pretty fun. Highlights included: a feeding frenzy trying all the cherry-related product samples at Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor; breakfast at the world's best family restaurant, Mables, where Kelly and I got engaged last summer; buying a bunch of cherry wine at local vineyards on Old Mission Peninsula; and of course, campfires.

I did make it back in time to stop by the launch of LAMB at NEST. The space looks great and the cover of the LAMB print editions look amazing! More are avaiable here. I'm really excited about LAMB. I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out what to write about next.

Also, I'm trying to sell my moped. I posted about it on Free-RAD, even though it's not actually free. I hope that's ok. I'm also trying to sell my car, a '96 Dodge Stratus with a bad transmission. So if you're a bored mechanic or something, e-mail me!
