Good News/Bad News

Good news first:

The podcast I produce for Spout.com, called FilmCouch, is nominated for a Webby Award!

If you like you can even vote for us for the the People's Voice Award.

Winning seems like a long shot, considering the other nominees:
-Guardian Unlimited, who did the hilarious Ricky Gervais Podcast, among other things.
-NPR, which apparently includes all their podcasts rolled into one entrant, featuring no-name crap like This American Life and Fresh Air (sarcasm).
-Scientific American, which I need to check out.
-And last but not least, The Onion!

For me it's an incredible honor to just be on the same list with these people.

Alas, time for the bad news:

Kurt Vonnegut died yesterday.

This drawing of his from Breakfast of Champions still makes me laugh:

"This is what an asshole looks like:"

Vonnegut's Slapstick was the first book I remember reading for pleasure, I was eighteen. I know, it's sad it took that long, but he broke through to me. I was working as a lift operator at Cannonsburg Ski Area at the time, and a large part of the job involved sitting in a cold little shack with a red button. If someone fell and couldn't get out of the way quickly enough, I pushed the button. Other than that, I did nothing. I fell into the world of Slapstick full-force. I'm not sure if it's possible to have that same experience with a book again, but I hope so. If not, I'm glad it happened at least once.

Hi-ho.
