Last night I met Fereshteh Toosi and Carolyn Lambert at Sports Pat's. They are in town for the opening of their piece, The Boston Tea Party 2004, at the uica. We had a nice time getting to know each other as we drank the Sports Pat's Special, and talked about art projects and Grand Rapids. Check out their relational printmaking work at the UICA!
...from Carolyn's website
"Our project was inspired by the original Boston Tea Party, a direct action protest. We hoped to recall the spirit of the Tea Party Resistance to examine present day struggles. Globalization, gentrification and the so-called "War on Terror" are contemporary versions of colonialism. Referencing the early colonists' creative act of defiance was a way to instigate conversations about current domestic security conflicts and the 2004 presidential election."
