Last night, at the Found Magazine lecture/show, our very own George Wietor got a much deserved shoutout. We all know that this cautiously extroverted fellow is responsible for a whole bunch of projects and ideas that have made grand rapids just that much more interesting. I was thinking about George's involvement in several organizations and how rarely he seeks credit and recognition for his role in their existence.

"One day, George." I thought, "One day you'll stand up and take your bow."

Then I realized that his low-profile is completely intentional. How else could he continue his campaign of injecting random fauna into hipster culture? Think about it. WCKS, The Whale. The DAAC, the Octopus. G-Rad, the squirrels. What's next geo, gonna make your dog the mascot for Moveable Cinema?

"And if you just stop and think of it
Ain’t no doubt of it
I’m gonna win a place in history
If I could walk with the animals
Talk with the animals
" -Bobby Darrin(I think)

Animal intentions aside, I think it is about time we gave a few props to George. G-rad is going places and I think he has a lot do with that. If George was an animal, what would he be?

Props to George.

George would be.....

a wise old owl?
Think, a shy, smart animal that stays out of the spotlight yet does a lot of good. You know George is more like Soil. He gives support and life to the plant, but the soil is never looked at with amazement (only by the few deep appreciators). Soil is amazing and beautiful, but we ignore it. George is totally soil. Thank You George.

Whatever animal george may be, I insist that it is cute and cuddly-wuddly.
I think his mascot should be a bear of some sorts.
