I already posted this in the forum but I want as many people to see this as possible.
We have had a million discussions on this board about how to improve Grand Rapids. It usually boils down to an argument between two voices, one being modestly hopeful and the other being bitterly disenfranchised.
I have made comments about the need to enact change at all levels, and to reiterate my point, I present to you the following;
Rosalynn Bliss is an amazing progressive candidate. The type that GR rarely sees. The front page article in the Press this Sunday highlighted the fact that she does not have the endorsement of right to life West Michigan.
Anyone who knows West Michigan knows that the pro-life vote is huge and frequently decides who sits in what position.
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS HAVE TO DO WITH THE GRAND RAPIDS CITY COMMISSION!
I expect this sort of blatant political "journalism" from say, Fox news or something but I think the Press has reached a new low with this one. Reproductive rights are currently an issue decided at the federal (supreme court) level with some rules applied at the state level. This article is clearly trying to influence uninformed, apolitical voters.
And if it wasn't sad enough that the GR Press is fighting for stagnation, Bliss' opponent, Shaula Johnson, has been using some very unethical practices in her campaign.
Here is the text on that last one:
He's my Guy! No, mine!
Will the real Guy Bazzani please stand up? Though the Wealthy Street developer threw a fundraiser for 2nd Ward candidate Rosalynn Bliss and is pictured on Bliss' campaign literature, he also is invoked in her opponent Shaula Johnston's latest campaign flier. As a city planning commissioner, Johnston's flier says she liked and voted for Bazzani's "Center of the Universe" project. Bazzani said the flier "stretches the bounds of good taste" and has led some of his friends to question which candidate he is backing (Bliss). As for Johnston, she said she was just trying to demonstrate her involvement and commitment to neighborhoods.
Bazzani is a well respected community leader and Johnson is trying to use his name to support her own cause without Bazzani's permission.
Kind of desperate if you ask me.
I know most of us on this board are not registered to vote in the 2nd Ward but please try to get anyone who is to vote for Bliss Tomorrow.
Here is her website if you want to check out her ideas.
