OCTOBER 12, 2005

Hi ya’ll
When the weather changes I always get that initial rush of good will and high spirits… the whole really happy, wonderment thing… I get the same feeling the first days of spring when it is really warm or the first snow fall… so that is the feeling I have had this week, ( although I hate the chill) The one thing the weather changes make me want to do is get out of the house and check out some cool things…. And there is quite a bit going on…. Hey check out the opportunities section at the bottom there are a few really cool things…. Might I add if you are a professor and you pass this on to your students… that would be cool… ( especially the opportunities section) Well I guess if you are anybody and you know somebody who might be interested pass it on….

So here is the Word on the Street for October 12, 2005
****Wednesday, October 12 A few years ago a Ward and I got into this kick of driving all over Michigan to check out whatever was going on… but one of the things that we checked out was the Faith Ringgold exhibition at the KIA So for all of you who missed her at the KIA she currently has a show at Aquinas Faith Ringgold is lecturing at Aquinas College on Wednesday, October 12, there are two lectures one at noon to 1:30 p.m. and the other at 7 to 8:30 p.m. "Quilts as Art and Story: The Works of Faith Ringgold" in the Aquinas College Performing Arts Center, 1703 Robinson Road, S.E. $10 to get it which is pretty crazy, and I hear tell that tickets are 5 if you are a student they are 5$....( I bet that is only Aquinas students..) but even if you don’t check out the lecture check out the work cause it is pretty intense.. the quilts are painted that is important to know cause when I saw ‘em I thought they would be a lot different…

Thursday October 13
It is kinda sad to me that the ladies literary club ( I walk by it everyday at least once located at 61 Sheldon se) will be no more…I don’t know much about the situation but I do know that it is gonna close and I heard possibly get turned over to a local university but that was just a rumor and I don’t know where I heard it… so come and check it out…there is a show called Conversations with myself.. and then maybe you will be able to answer a question that I have had WHO IS ALLIE MERRICK ? event is from 8-9 at night…..ok so this is the part that I am not happy about you can purchase tickets through Star Tickets Plus located in Meijer… or on line at www.starticketsplus.com

Saturday night Vertigo music everyone’s Favorite music store is presenting WOLF PARADE 7-11:00 pm at the Intersection…. What to say about this… I love Vertigo, the support of local businesses ( open mic at Founders), the great selection, the way that I never get looked at weird for my musical taste even when I buy something like… Billy Joel’s greatest hits. Thanks Herm.

Saturday night The Tony Shechtman Orchestra is performing at the UICA 8:00
I saw these guys last week at Billy’s I think it is great that they are playing at the UICA.. I hope this doesn’t offend anyone but it is like watching a pirate crew play some of your favorite songs… and there is some crazy old stuff and I thought what it lacked occasionally in harmony it makes up for.. in every other way… Pretty much the same deal as always at the UICA 5$ for members 7$ for everyone else
