Greetings from Texas even though I may be out of town my thoughts are still in Grand Rapids and I just have to mention Grand Rapids is way, way more happening then Huston, well I think we might not have found the really happening part of town… but I found the free media mags. today so I think maybe I can hunt it down. I am having a good time…. So this is a bit short but there is a great (job) opportunity at the bottom of the page. if I was in town this weekend this is what I would be doing…
Thursday night, October 20th there are going to be openings at the UICA. From 6-9 you can check out 5 artists and two of them attended school locally Juan Garcia and Erika Hanson, then there are Bartow+ Metzgar and Leslie Kendall Rech. So check out the show and tell me what you think.
Saturday the 22 I hear that Jukes is a pretty cool place, I did a bunch of framing for them when I worked at the frame shop so I know they have cool stuff on the wall…. So if the ambiance doesn’t do it for you maybe watching Deliliah DeWylde doing amazing tricks with her stand up base is… Check it out she actually swings an instrument that I swear is bigger then her over her head and does this amazing thing where she climbs on top of it, and keeps playing…. Oh yeah and she has a band, The Lost Boys…. also playing that night Honest D and the Steel Reserve…. www.delilahdewylde.com www.jukesbar.com
And here is a suggestion from Sean. “I wanted to make a personal recommendation regarding the upcoming "best of fest" screening of the Ann Arbor film fest at UICA this coming Friday and Saturday. I'm not sure of the show times but I attended the entire Ann Arbor film fest and it was incredible. I'm not sure which films were chosen for the traveling version but it certainly won't disappoint. Now, I should note that these are not "normal" films in the narrative tradition. The AA festival chooses films that show an appreciation for film as art. So, if you're looking for a mainstream experience, seek elsewhere. But if you're looking for experimental, documentary, or animation that is truly strange, beautiful, and compelling, the is it”
Saturday October 22 Everyone loves the farmers market over on Fulton ( by Fuller) but on Sunday it is the Artist's and Craftsperson's show, from 11:00 to 4:00, people seem willing to stick it out for the rest of the month which is exciting so come and get a jump on your Holiday shopping. If you are interested in participating as an artist I hear that booth space is pretty cheap and you don’t have to lug all of your tables down….
You can also still apply for the Holiday Artists Market, until Friday October 28, 2005 http://www.uica.org/ham.html the Holiday Market Saturday December 3rd from 10-5. December 2nd ( Friday ) from 5-9
Opportunities, So here is a good job opportunity for anyone who is looking for some part time work and also it would be a great way to work with people who are getting some good stuff done. From what I hear it is an interesting and dynamic organization that is doing some great projects in Grand Rapids. So check the job description out. I attached it at the bottom of the page.
Ok…. If you know of something interesting going on in the area, or have a review of and event that you attended and want to share it, drop me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or if you remember something cool that was in last week’s word on the street but can’t remember what it was then check out word on the street…. on line as a Blog ( maybe someday it will become a vlog! ) at http://www.g-rad.org/wordonthestreet/ or check out G-Rad… the address http://www.g-rad.org/
