Sorry I am late this week….. it was all that snow… snowing…I wanted to thank everyone who wrote letters last week to Michael P. Flanagan, the superintendent for Public Instruction. Friday night start early, Check out “Chrysalis” Graduates, Chrysalis Sculptor Joel Addis, Sculptor Ryan Hafer and Illustrator Caroline Hardy. These guys have moved it DOWNTOWN, this space is going to be hot over the next few weeks so I encourage you to check it out while it is here. Tanglefoot is having their annual Studio Show which starts Friday and runs all weekend. The hours are Friday, November 18 5-8pm, Saturday, November 19, 12-5pm and Sunday, November 20, 12-5pm So for any one who hasn’t been to Tanglefoot Warehouse Studio yet it is located on 314 Straight Street SW Door K (between West Fulton and Wealthy) And get this they take VISA and MasterCard so that excuse of, “Oh I ran out of cash” it doesn’t work here http://www.tanglefootstudio.com
Friday November 18th, this is one of those for the first time in Grand Rapids things, Check out “Wild Americans” a reception for a collaborative show of work by Melissa Duimstra and Tom d. at Sanctuary Folk Art… Also while you are there you can check out some of Reb’s work and the other people that he represents. The reception runs from 6-11, In case you are wondering where Sanctuary Folk Art is it is on Division, at 140 S. Division.
Alright someone explain to me who is running 280 Studios? I am so curious… well whomever it is working with the UICA to do Art Battle 5 on Friday yep and there is a 1,000$ prize for whatever happy soul wins… so if you forgot to register as an artist or you feel like to flexing some American Style Democratic choice, stop by the UICA from 8-11 pay 10$ to eat, booze, and VOTE for your friends…. ( or people you think are good) there are also a bunch of bands that were going to play at the DAAC that are now playing at the UICA…
November 18th, 2005 if you are more in the mood for some music check out Draggin’ Anchors w/ Nobodys Darlin’ at Jukes… I Think the inside of Jukes is great, lots of Album covers in Frames, and as a music Geek Friend Pointed out none of them are bad albums, and most are the music geek classic..… last time I went the opening band was great but the second was LOUD… so be prepared….
I also saw the owner out and about like three times last week… so that must mean something…?
November 19th, 2005Why not get up a bit early on Saturday and go… Shopping! This weekend begins all of the sales around town… this one is called the BLUE HOUSE BAZZAR and it runs from 9-3 they are selling jewelry knit goods, cloths, dog treats, note cards, and a white elephant. Saturday the 19th form 6 till later Mezze is hosting a show with Ideal Collective, called Gala-Muziq What is Gala-Muziq? I have no idea but I do know that it is gonna be a good time with Food, Fashion and Art….Yep and it is 20$ to get in but…. Like I said food, fashion, and art…..i think there might be some music… and booze is optional but… if I must….what can I say? As we all know, the Arts are alive in Michigan but is a constant fight to keep them alive in our public schools, to provide and educate the public about creative thought, and there is no where to start then the bottom up I did a bit of research and found a few links about how the arts encourage growth in children and was pointed to a few sites by Beth L. So I wanted to thank her and pass those on. But if it did, and you have always dreamed of hopping the Att Train and spreading art to all the little boys and girls of the US… well now is your chance…. The rest of this I didn’t write… because I wanted it to be true to form so…….. Apply for the Maggie & Bob Allesee Fellowship Program Fellows continue to develop their professional and artistic skills, while broadening their knowledge of the arts, arts administration, curatorial and conservation practices. The Fellowship is open to those who have graduated from a fine arts, art history, museum studies or arts administration program within the last 3 years, have an overall GPA of 2.5 or above and are at least 21 years old at the start of the Fellowship. The ideal candidate will be looking for a unique experience, enjoy traveling and have an interest in community education and public service.
Allesee Fellows will travel from approximately January to June 2006. Dependent upon the tour schedule, the Allesee Fellowship period may be subject to change.
