JANUARY 4, 2006

Hello everyone,!
People are still recovering from the holidays. I discovered something interesting about my self over break. If I am not doing a bunch of things my brain rots and I end up sitting on the couch trying to think of intelligent thoughts. So needless to say I am pretty happy to be back in the saddle. Although it was really great to see my friends, family, and sleep till 12:00….. So that is that see ya later vacation. Back to business, and that includes getting Word on the Street out on time.

Here is the Word on the Street For December 4th.

Oh looking for a show tonight? January 4th ? Johnson Rock and Roll Machine, Paul Baribeau, The Piedmonster and Panacea at the DAAC
On Friday night January 6th there is an opening at Studio 71 South. The Penis Project by Sue Long. Yep that is right over 100 creamic sculptures of hum.. I guess I will have to go and check out the show… anyhow this is also a fundraiser for the Women’s Resource Center, so if you feel like dropping 5 $ in a bucket this would be a good time to do it the reception runs form 6- whenever, Studio 71 South is located at 71 S. Division or check out the Website at www.studio71south.com

Friday January 6th At the DAAC Pink Razors, North Lincoln and Hombrinus Dudes. Nathan really digs Hombrinus Dudes, they are LOUD. But they do it to it.

Satudrday January 7th at Jukes Honest D and the Steel Reserve ( I think Steel reserve is a Beer?) Are playing at Jukes with Local talent David Bleckley… UM, no cover at the door, and a bunch of covers on stage, along with a few originals thrown in for luck. I like to sit back and try and figure out the covers from the originals, if you aren’t listening to the talky talk in between songs sometimes it isn’t as easy as you think. Especially with David whose voice is surprisingly suited for a variety of favorites.

Saturday January 7th Maverack is playing with Germ Theory at the Daac. I like Maverack, some of the stuff he raps over is really cool and has a great beat to it. Last time I saw him perform was a while ago but the other thing I really liked is that he is rapping about local stuff and places, and you can understand the lyrics which is a big thing for me. And I haven’t seen Germ Theory.

Opportunities: there is a Self Employment in the Arts Conference coming up and it is located in Illinois, there are few topics that are not that bad. There are some interesting music related seminars, and I don’t know about anyone else, but I really like conferences. So if you are interested you can check it out on the web at www.seaconference.com

Also I would suggest checking out the Local First website. I think Local First is a great little group and that their advertising and promotion has been doing quite a bit of good in GR. So I’ll throw in their link just for kicks.

And a website that was passed on by paul, I spent an hour or so poking around Space and Culture and it is pretty interesting… so if you have some time check it out…. http://spaceandculture.org/

So there it is short and simple this week. drop me an email at ioniastreetmarket@hotmail.com or jennschaub@hotmail.com.. (have I ever mentioned I love getting emails LOVE THEM!) Now WOTS is online at http://www.g-rad.org/projects/wordonthestreet/ or you can go to G-rad http://www.g-rad.org/ and then access it through projects….
Thanks for reading all the way to the bottom
