We’ve had over 100 people vote so far, and the voting will be concluded on Thursday. I’m keeping short and sweet this week.
Here is the Word on the Street For March 8 2006
Tonight Wednesday March 8, 2006 at Mezze, Chance Jones is playing, there is n cover but there is a drink or food minimum, which I just had their cheese melt montondo ( sp?) yesterday and it was great. I also heard a rumor that they might have a food wine, special but no lowdown on the specifics of that yet. Chance Jones is great, we have been listening to his CD nonstop since we picked it up, and I love it. His original stuff is really witty. So the show starts at 7 and goes until 930ish, Mezze is on Fulton next to San Chez, I’ll be there.. will you?
There is a reception at Eyekons on Friday March 10th for the Lent exhibit, Featured artists include, RICK BEERHORST, JAMES FISSEL, WAYNE FORTE, MAKOTO FUJIMURA, PETER GORDON, LAURA JAMES, ERIC NYKAMP, CHRIS STOFFEL OVERVOORDE, STEVE PRINCE, KEVIN ROLLY, SUSAN SEAVITT, RACHAEL VAN DYKE
Then on Saturday March 11th as part of their Lent show Eyekons is hosting a workshop on aesthetic Prayer, which sounds pretty interesting, it runs form 8:30 to 5 and only costs 15$ you can just show up if you want or called 235 2929 for more info. Eykons is located at 210 East Fulton
This weekend there is a movie at the UICA that I thought looked pretty rad. It is called CSA: Confederate States of American and it is a faked out documentary that is kind of an alternative reality, what if the south had won sort of a thing… It sounds like it addresses the freaky stuff that could have happened and along the way addresses the freaky stuff that does happen. So it looks amazing and the show times are Friday, Mach 10th at 7, Saturday, Mach 11th 7, or on Sunday is a take your pick situation, with times at 1 and 5pm.
Sunday night, Jukes has done it again, I am so impressed with their total coolness, you know how there is always someone in the group griping about the bad music in the bar, and if you put cash in the juke box it doesn’t last very long? Well aside form having a huge free juke box, Jukes has outdone themselves, the have a night when you can play DJ with your iPod on Sunday from 7 to close, how sweet is that! So you have to have at least 5 friends along side of you, and I assume that’s so at least there are 5 people to talk you out of playing bad tunes, but it is first come first serve, and they do it all night so get there at and sign up early, ( SO COOL!) Did I mention that they have happy hour prices all night?
Next week there is a closing reception in the Padnos gallery ( GVSU Allendale Campus, Calder Art Center) for two GVSU students, but the reason it makes it into Word this week is because one of the guys, Brian Caponi will be working with like 2,000 lbs of clay making structures in the gallery, so check him out hard at work and you can measure the progress by stopping out the week of march 13-17th, I’ll mention the closing a bit more next week.

The Circle Theater is holding auditions for Oliver this week they are looking for a ton of people including 20 kids between 7 and 15 & 18 men and women so you need to make an appointment by calling 632 1982 and of course it is a musical so you’ll have to sing, and dance! Auditions are held at the Aquinas College arts and Music Building, and the performance is May 11- 28th http://www.circletheatre.org/
