Third Thursday Gallery Hop is happening on Thursday May 18, come and check out what is happening on the Avenue for the Arts….
Lisa Price is opening a new show at the DAAC and the Work is Hilarious, her work is satirical and funny… she uses 50’s images and mag. advertisements to create commentary on current sociopolitical situations, all the time keeping it pretty personal and not getting too nostalgic…
Calvin’s Arts space is showing the work of Kasaian Dane’s painting class, so the work is varied.
There is a Great show at Nick Stockton’s space fwd. I mentioned it last week but the show is Cat’s work and it is really quite beautiful, Cat lost her mom over a year ago and this work is a rather breath taking exploration of loss.
And of course many of our gallery spaces such as Sactuary, Capsule, and Studio 71 South will be open.
On Friday night May 19, WYCE is holding a benefit concert sponsored by Vertigo Records
The show is going to be at the Intersection in the front lounge… Which I have to say, the front lounge is abit more relaxed and even dare I say it, more enjoyable then the back. Tickets are 7$ and the show starts at 8pm. I haven’t ever heard of Jon Auer, however I am told he has been in the Bands the posies, Big Star, and is doing some solo stuff… I am sure if you check out WYCE this week you will be able to catch a song or two.
On Friday May 19th check out salsa dancing and a live Cuban guitar/ DJ at Mezze. The show is 21+ cause it is a drinking appropriate event.
The Entries for the Governors residence are due Friday by 5 PM you can find out more information on the UICA website…. This is more of a reminder notice… you may have to scramble a bit if you haven’t already started.
I was checking out the Movies on the UICA because the weather had been so blah lately I waz thinking about catching a flick…. And the one that caught my eye was LONESOME JIM… it is directed by Steve Buscemi, starts Casey Affleck and Liv Tyler… and it kinda looks good….. but then the review from Rolling Stone mentions depressing. So maybe the kid dies at the end??? ( this is just speculation) anyhow, if you are interested in checking it out there are show times, Friday at 2:00 PM, Saturday at 2:00 and 10:00 PM, and Sunday at 3:00 PM
Sunday May 21st there is a show at the DAAC with Cordova, Sadaharu, and Diggerthe show starts at 8:30
Monday May 22nd there is a show at the DAAC that I know absolutely nothing about GRHHC live from the 616
