JUNE 21, 2006

Hi everyone!
So summer officially begins this week. Pretty intense, I am loving the heat, and hoping that it doesn’t rain tomorrow….cause it’s gonna be my birthday. By the way another local whose birthday is the same day is Cabildo member, Andrew Teggelaar. Anyhow, There is little to chit chat about except for the many weekend events.

Here is word on the Street for June 22nd, 2006
If your kids have started drawing on the walls, finger painting on the ceiling and overall going crazy with creativity maybe it is time to get them out of the house and feed their creative inspirations. There are some great summer classes through Easely Art. The classes are around 150$ a class, but they have pretty cool themes, such as “ Ultimate Urban Investigation” which is June 19-23 and Rags to Snazz July 17-21… oh and another favorite, August 14-18th Public Art…. For more info about the summer camps, or classes check out http://www.easelyart.com/artcamps.php

I know this weekend is the Grand Haven Arts festival. Head for the Kirby and you will find it. I think that one is 2 days long, but closer to home is the 2nd Annual East Hills Jazz Fest and Artists Market. Happening Saturday, from 10 am to 4 pm, located where else but the Center for the Universe on Cherry Street between Diamond, Cherry and Warren. It should be pretty chill and a nice way to spend the afternoon.

Saturday night beginning at 8:30 there is a benefit show for the Off Beats, at the DAAC 115 South Division they won’t actually be playing, but All Rights reserved, Rise into Ruin, and Eric Browning will be.

Oh! Saturday night there is a great performer at Mezze. Freddy Degennaro use to play at the Copper Top, ( I bet he still does) Anyhow Brett ( Mezze Manager) liked him so much he purseuaded him to come and begin playing at Mezze. Which is great cause Freddy is pretty damn good. The songs are love songs, and it is pretty chill

Of course the Local First Street Party is this weekend on Saturday it starts at noon and runs until 5 pm. There is local everything, food, beer, bands, and it is over by Bistro Bella Vita, there is awesome live music from Cabildo and La Famila,

This Saturday marks the opening of the Ansel Adams exhibit at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, unique because the photos are all created with Polaroid Film the exhibit has like 80 pieces in it and is on exhibit for the next few months. I think it will be a pretty cool show and I am excited to check it out on Saturday.

The Daac is having an impromptu showing of drawings of Sumi Ink Club and a music by Lucky Dragons, and Hot Tapes for Teens…. 5$ in the Door.
