Ok this is how we do it when we haven’t any time, but we want to communicate with the world all of the cool things going on this week/end. Basic, plain, little chit chat, see you on the other end. ( Avenue for the Arts Market! Saturday!)

This week on Thursday there is a speaker who will be discussion the big Ballot Debate that is currently crawling all over the news. Speaker Jean Doss Coordinator of One United Michigan will be speaking about “ the Not-so Civil Rights Initiative: Why it’s Harmful to Women, Minorities, and Families in Michigan” the talk will be given at the Wege Center Loutit Room at Aquinas college, I know it sounds difficult but that is just off Robinson Road, parking is pretty easy and the event is Free. Time to brush up on your politics. Need more info? firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also this Thursday night September 7th at 8 pm the DAAC is presenting a show at the Wealthy Theater… this show is so big it couldn’t be housed at the DAAC. So the bands are Shellac, and Uzega. You can buy tickets at Vertigo and catch the show… according to fans it should be AAAMMMMAAAZZZIIIINNNGGG.
This weekend is of course Celebration on the Grand and the Hispanic festival The Hispanic Festival will be located downtown Grand Rapids and feature great food, from all over, a market with vendors selling work, and community areas which include local artists, cool stuff from local businesses, did I mention there are 2 beer tents…..
Entertainment runs from 11:30 to 11:30 with fireworks Friday at 10-10:30 …… I love the fire works, and the food….
This Friday September 8th the DAAC is showing off Mercury Radio Theater, Maps and Atlases. CCCCOCCC, and Child Bite Tickets at the door are $10
A little ways away, This week opens a new show at the Holland Area Arts Council, called out of the Michigan Woods, It features Fred Bivins of Vinecroft studios ( Fred is also the President of the Boards of Festival) anyhow there is an Artists reception this Friday the 8th for more information and times contact email@example.com

So Saturday what are you gonna do? Come for the Avenue for the Arts market, see some rad vendors, check out live local bands, vote at Laced, check out the show at Skelletones, and stop by Jeff’s show at the DAAC. It should be an all out night. I am so excited too end the summer with a Rockin’ Good event.
So here is what we have going on at the last Avenue for the Arts Market Event,
LIVE MUSIC. Located behind the 120 S. Division Building, including the PotatoeBabies kicking the evening off from 5-6, followed by local acoustic artist Marcio from 6-7, the eclectic and wide-ranging Cabildo from 7-8 and crowd pleasers Moto from 8-9. Local rockers Love Fossil will end the evening on a not-so-quiet note- jamming from 9-10pm.
We will be hosting the last night of our Raffle with prizes including tickets to a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, gift cards to San Chez bistro, and many more
We will have Carnival Games where you can win Prizes! The features games are Avenue for the Arts inspired and also Feature the Ruby Clothing Carnival.
Fwd>>Space will be printing T-shirts live, they have different screens and images you pick your choice and dish it out.
There will be fashion models from Imagination Creations strolling the streets, a performance form Laura Armenta’s Belly Dancers, a possible fire eater, maybe a juggler, and who knows what else.
OF COURSE! We will have all Sorts of Great vendors, including some vintage clothing, a whole mess of artwork, a few new vendors and a few staple vendors.
SO much to do this night! All City Kicks is hosing “Laced” a Sneaker Competition from 8-11, They are looking for people to come down and vote on their favorite shoes. There are 13 different Artists who will be creating 26 different shoes. The Vibe should be pretty chill with beats by DJ Money Green, and a whole lot of Footwear….
Also on Saturday Skelletones is having a great show with a band Featured on GR own Friction Records. “LaDispute” will be playing with Ivan, Bringin Down Broadway, and Island View Drive. The show is starting at 7 and Mirf described LaDispute as GR’s Youngest and Loudest band… the show should be great and it is at Skelletones, below the Euclid on South Division. 7$ at the Door.
The DAAC is getting new arts. I can’t wait to see more of the work of Marc Paffi, if it is anything like what is on the show card I am so, so, excited, the shoe “false Animals” features work by Jeff Vandenburg and Mark, This show opens at 8 and goes until 12….
So that’s all for Saturday night……
This Coming Tuesday there is a show at the Wealthy theater that I didn’t want to miss. Mamadou Diabate, Vinx and Bill Vits, will be playing at 7:30… tickets are like 15$ but… the thing that I enjoyed about the description was the idea that one of the Musician’s “ uses music and sometimes oratory to preserve and sustain people’s Consciousness of the Past. So I guess that “mamadou Diabate” is Kind of “ world beat” and Vinx is drums/ voice, and last Bil Vits is local and the lead percussionist for the GR Symphony.
