Ok I have received like 10 emails about this event, there are a lot of people excited about checking this out. The event is not just the screening of a new flick by a local film maker it is a show of support by his community which I find to be remarkable. So on Friday night at the UICA (41 Sheldon) there will be a Film Screening of “the Box of Lanzo” by Sami Mermer, The movie will be shown at 7PM, from 9-9:30 there will be a reception with information and a discussion of the film. And then at 10PM there is going to be a Benefit celebration including a dance performance, Burlesque, entertainment by Cabildo and La Familia, painting by Elizabeth Vedrine, some interesting video projection and more! So come down and support Sami, watch his movie, Support! Support! Support! If you want to know more about the Movie you can contact Sami directly at 454-2171 or email him at

Also on the 24th, Check out Benjamin Riley and Chance Jones. Oh! Chance Jones! I have heard that everybody and their brother is involved with this show, it should be a great time no cover and if you want to check it out ahead of time look at

How about this,
If you are still hanging out with Friends, and family that include children, here is a great thing to do on Friday. Check out Giftworks! At the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum. They will supply kids with what they need to create gifts, there is a new gift to make each week and you can do so from Tuesday to Saturday. The Cost is included with admissions, and you can make it and take it any time between 10-3 the GRCM is located at 22 Sheldon. A great way to hang out with little people and relax.

This weekend there are a bunch of great bands playing.

Saturday night at Rocky’s “Cabildo” will be playing it is 5 $ to get in. Rocky’s is over on Ottawa and if you haven’t been there is a great bar to chill in, or dance your butt off to some Latin rock.

On Saturday the 25th the Skies revolt cd Release party is happening at Skelletones with a huge GR all Star line up of LaDispute, Ivan, Coal Black Horse and the Vigilantes doors at 6 and the cool part is that everyone gets a CD, Free stuff is good!

Saturday the 25th you can check out a Hip Hop show at the DAAC. Suggested by Governor Slugwell performances by “Zhao-Ski”,”Decompoze”, “Kodac” and “Octane & Illiate” Show Starts at 8:30

Last but never least on Sunday at the DAAC there are three bands playing, “Rahim”, “Maps and Atlases”, and “The Mighty Narwhale”, 7$ to get in doors at 8:30 ish.

Just because it is Monday doesn’t mean that the fun is over, the DAAc has a death grind band from Japan. I have no idea what Death Grind is, but I think the title is probably repersenational of the sound. Anyhow that band is “Bathtub Shitter” “Hombrinus Dudes” and “Putrid Warrior”

Here is an internship that looks totally cool, and an amazing intern position.
It is through GRCC. You will be designing a comprehensive PR Plan to promote the 200th year commemoration of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. There are 3 major events that you would be promoting including a Collaborative Traveling Art Project a National or regional Speaker presentation and a City wide writing or reading event. Very cool. I think this sounds great, They are looking for creative thinkers who are independent and have strong communication skills .
