Hello hello hello!
Thank you to everyone who braved the elements last weekend and came out the “Spring for the Arts” we had a great turn out despite the weather, people enjoyed the trolleys and I have gotten some great feedback. If you came I would love to get your reaction. It helps us to plan for the next event if we know what you liked, and didn’t like, and where we can improve. A little constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Check out some new blood this week, the gallery at the Performing Arts Center at GVSU (Allendale Campus) will be showing work from Joya Marsh, Julie Teft, and David Bergenham. The reception is Thursday April 12th ! From 5-7 PM.

Thursday night is high school jam at skelletones, this week’s bands include “Blue Star Pilot” “Thank You”Bowdich Bros”Friend or Foe” and “the Inuendos” doors at 6 pm

On the 13th (yep that is Friday the 13th) Halloween party, 50$ for best costume, “national Cadaver,” “HIV”, the Resistance” the Abdicated” and ” Static Massacre”
The Hispanic Center of West Michigan, (10:30 am) Aquinas College (2 PM) and Divine Grace Ministry (4pm) area all hosting events for “Step Up Grand Rapids” on April 14th (Saturday) in support of West Michigan Environmental Action Council there are exhibitions, speakers, and all sorts of knowledge nuggets. This weekend Kendall is out and getting busy, Friday night check out the “Fashion Show, Bodies of Art” at the Amway Grand Hotel, in the past I have heard this is a mixed bag so I want a full review, tickets at the door are $7-10 Dollars… details I do know… Music by David Whilhelm and Fashions by Ryan Brady. Doors at 8 fashion hits the floor at 9.

Saturday the 14th check out the show at the DAAC, Indian Jewelry is a band form Chicago playing with Clipd Beaks, Saffron Bloods, Pink Reason and Tin Pigeons. The DAAC is all ages all the time

On the 14th at Skelletones “With Blood comes Cleansing”, “Beneath the Sky”, “xLifuinerx” and “Brothers” $10

On Saturday night check out Active Site Art Exhibition, featuring the work of Kendall Art Students, also it is a sneak peak at a new restarunt and clube called Chrchills and Moxie, the opening is from 6-10 Pm

This Friday sign up for the True North Film Festival, coordinators encourage you to make films by offering up this challenge. You draw a title, and then make a move, no more then 10 no less then 3 minutes long there will be a screening at the Wealthy theater, the Screening event is Spetember 14th, you can sign up at the Wealthy Theater on Friday at 7:30 there is a fee but it is pretty small. Sunday morning the 15th Audition for One Flew Over the Cukoo’s Nest from 7am to 11am at the Grand Rapids Civic Theater! For more information and to make sure you don’t have to schedule your auditions call 222-6652

George is excited about Sunday’s show, Casiotone for the painfully alone and Jes Kramer are playing at the DAAC, it is only 6 dollars to get in, and george made a great flyer for it. The DAAC is all ages all the time.

This weekend (Sunday night) Jucifer rolls back into town and will be playing with Fred Thompson Trio, Veronica Speedwell and Nian Rouge, Guaranteed to be a high energy performance, I recommend picking up a Jucifer cd. More melodic and vocally oriented then their stage performance, their CDs are great. It is 8$ through the door 21+ and the show starts at 9 at the Breakroom on Plainfield

There is a position open for a Development Director at the Mosaic Theater in Detroit, you work to support programs dealing with youth, the organization is well run, it has an annual budget of 1.2 Million with 75% coming from contributions. They are looking for someone who can raise money and lots of it. If you are interested they would like a cover letter and 3-5 references emailed to sam@mosacidetroit.org

Want to move to Washington DC? The Americans for the Arts is looking for a meetings and event associate to work to coordinate meetings and events. You get to work with speakers, and work on the Annual Convention, Arts Advocacy Day and with organizations like the United arts Fund, the US Urban Arts Federation and Public Art Network. They are also looking for a Manager of Community Development which oversees partnerships, programs and services that increase the knowledge, visibility and engagement of arts leaders in rural, suburban, country and urban settings. Yeah……you get to develop and implement field programs and event , (I am kind of dieing inside for this Job) Check out more information about the job at www.americansforthearts.org. Next up ArtCorps. That is right think Peacecorps, Americoprs, and then Artcorps. Join ArtCorps and use your art-performing and or Visual to strengthen international development in Cwentral America. It is an 11 month long program and you can apply for opportunities in Guatemala and El Salvador, but you have to speak Spanish for info check out. http://www.artcorp.org/artist_placements.html

The NCCA (Newaygo County Council for the Arts) is looking for participants for their Statewide Photography Competition and the deadline is April 14th, there is a cash awards, and the exhibit opens on April 25th. you can submit up to 2 photographs from any process, not previously shown at the NAAC and there is a 20$ non-refundable entry fee.
