Word on the Street May 21, 2007

Memorial day weekend ALREADY!? Well I hope you have some great plans for getting outside and enjoying the weather! It is looking like it will turn out to be pretty nice..... If you are still looking to book your plans here are some suggestions!

Tonight is a great night for picking up some great artwork. GVSU is holding an alumni silent auction beginning at 6pm at the Calder Art Center out on the main campus. Tickets are $20 to get in the door but there are over 50 works of art to be auctioned, food and alcoholic beverages so you are sure to get your money's worth. I am excited about bidding on a piece by Brian Caponi, a great painting by Shanna Shearer and maybe a small print by Jenny Pope. There are so many great local artists who have donated pieces. Paul Amenta's piece is sure to go, Leanne has great print and I LOVE Scott Travis's work. Seriously I could go on and on, Aneka Vanderhill, Lisa Price, Brett Colley... great local artists. Some of the work starts as low as 20$ so you know you will find something great. All ticket prices and auction proceeds benefit scholarship funds for Artists. I can't wait! Tickets are totally avaiable at the door ($20 includes food and beverages) and the location is at the Calder Art Building out on the GVSU main campus.

Friday night at Skelletones 5 bands featuring a "Torn Between Arms" CD release Party "Bringing Down Broadway" "Fight This War" "This is Tomorrow" and "Brighter Cities" Won't it be sad if everything goes digital all the time and instead of CD release parties there are MP3 Download parties??? It just doesn't' have the same ring as a record, tape or CD release....

So check it out. Look for some local faces! I am totally going to be on the couch in eager anticipation.
