DINO-ART MASH-UP

Good morning!
I was up so Bright and Early this morning that it was only early and it took about an hour before it became bright! HOW did THAT happen.... I guess I was just SO excited and was trying to jump start my weekend! Hopefully you find just as many cool things to do this weekend as I have!

Here it is! Word on the street for August 7th, 2009! (Happy Birthday Steph!)

FRIDAY NIGHT!
The GRAM is sneaking out onto the streets on Friday with a few different attractions. The Groove Merchant is playing beginning at 5pm at 7pm Chris Randall wit talk about the Art of Cinema and a bit of behind the scenes look at special effects. From 7:45 till later there will be dancing in the ecliptic and the galleries stay open until 9pm and at 10pm they are going to be showing Jurassic Park, outside, for free!
Cost $5 free for members!

Mixtape Acoustic Cafe: is going to be hosting a whole bunch of bands including "The Hard lessons" from d-town, The Ropes, Ryan Nelson, The Powerlines, Paul Teft and Sam Casares. The cost is $10 the day of and this show is ALLAGES!

FIRDAY/ SATURDAY!
If you are looking for a nearby "get away " this weekend then Cowpie Blues Festival Sounds like it might be just the ticket. Just a hop, jump and a skip form downtown (in Caledonia) there is a hot mess of bands playing strating at 6:30 on Friday and then at 11:30 on Saturday. SATURDAY!
Saturday evening head down to the Avenue for the Arts on S. Division between Weston and Williams for the August Avenue for the Arts Market! There are now quite a few vendors on the site as well as pics on the website www.avenueforthearts.com/streetmarket (This weekend is vendor appreciation weekend! And we expect somewhere between 30 and 50 vendors!) In addition we have a great line up of entertainers including: Paul Emery, Thornapple River, High Five, Tango Folias, Karisa Wilson, Belly Dancing and The Wren Boys Be sure to come hungry! Brickroad Pizza will be returning to sell pizza by the slice or you can bop up the street to one of our great bar/restaurants, Pub 43, Taquitos, Rockwells, Republic or Rumors! 4-9pm! Just around the corner is NOSH NIGHT and the UICA street Party. Enjoy some classy eats and family games until 7pm and then things get a bit more a-dult with a Recycled Runway stage show, Djs and a cash bar will be on hand to keep the social lube flowing.

There is cool show going on at Mixtape at beginning at 6pm with a bunch of punk bands including GR's Chernobyl Babies (amazing hair boys!) Natural Disasters, 3 a.m. Delerium the Michigan City Vandals, and Mitchell

On Saturday night at Founders the Fainting Generals are going to be having an Album release party with some pretty awesome special guests; Chance Jones, Lazy G and Burgertime. The show starts around 9 and is conveniently just blocks away from the AAMarket! Name of the CD: Everybody drinks Kombocha in Hell"

SUNDAY!!
The Weather on Sunday is supposed to be amazing. And the Fredrick Meijer Gardens are open from 12 until5pm with a whole bunch of cool flowoers, sculptures and in case you haven't seen it yet there is an exhibition featuring Calder's work!

Meanwhile is hosting their last summer Bike Ride. From 4:30 until 7:30 get it on bike style and meet up with both friends and soon to be friends. NOTE: This ride is more of a pub crawl on bikes. Meet up at Meanwhile,

OPPORTUNITY!
You know how there are those people who do amazing things in the community, maybe they work with a children's afterschool program, or volunteer at a food bank, or the perhaps you are acquainted with a recent college graduate who is doing their first year of Americorps and rocking it out with a little community organizing?
