wednesday was super intense macs bar show, with really loud noise and drunkards and rotten milk vs bubblegum shitface (from chicago). and then i played a solo set with aj and i was pissed. i couldnt hear anything like i wanted to so i threw my clock radio on the ground and everything came unplugged and then i cheered.

computers = bitchy

mommy and sister took me to see grandma and grandpa for a few days. that isnt fun. a day and a half of cribbage and apple pie (the apple pie was fun) and trying to fix bitchy.

now bitchy = fixed.

i was pulled over for the first time ever in my whole life so far. i was pulled over for going to slow. 40 in a 55. it didnt matter that i was only following the silly man in front of me waiting to pass. and the policey was bitchy. but she couldnt give me a ticked for anything so i laughed and drove off with out even a warning. (she was checking for drunkenness but didnt everything in the world to prove otherwise)

then i finally came home and turned on the tv for a little bit. cops was on. grrrrrr. two cops and threw a woman to the ground and sat on her head because she wasnt cooperating. but she was.

it reminds me of that time in the library when that kid got tasered and everyone was pissed but they didnt do anything to help him
(im sure everyones seen this already)

lost and found

boredom kills me. soo....

while walking down the street the other day, looking for loose change so i could do my laundry, i noticed an abundance of cigarette butts, and i could not help but think of the poor souls that misplaced them. so ive decide, in order to kill the boredom, that i will pick up the cigarette butts so that when i find the owner, i can return them ($$$$$$)

or

i will be a super bastard and keep them. i will use them to create my very own empire. i will start with one all american family and one all american house, and it will expand until the floorspace under my bed is completely filled. but this will only happen if nobody claims them within 90 days.

in other news, i love looking for records.

today i found some special treats!

elaine brown's (of the Black Panther Party) Seize The Time. i love the art a bunch and the music gets a B+ for lyrically beautiful + but a little unoriginal in the pianism (made up for by the occasional horns)

an interview with elaine brown (on prison, hip hop, and such)

harsh jazz

first, an aural orgasm.

hot tapes' fifteen minutes of fame recorded at the elbow room in october (and one of the many reason i hate bars and fuck-up sound guys that like to use bubble machines).

secondly, a story.

kalaparusha's forces and feelings is one of the most inspiring albums i have ever heard. beautiful free jazz jams with the most amazing bass and guitar work i have had the chance to hear.

john coltrane's om is also right up there. it is a frightening album. "...and the rituals taught by scriptures, all these am i and the offering made to the ghost of the fathers, herbs of healing and food, the mantra the clarified butter, i the oblation and i the flame to which it is offered, i am the child of the world and this world's mother and grand child, i am he who awards to each the fruits of his action i make all things clean, i am om...om.om....oooomm... sax and flute freak out..."

friendly tree

i climbed a tree tonight!! and then i sat up there waiting for the jazz concert to start. then people walked by i watched and laughed to myself. then this buddy of mine that i met at critical mass rode by and recognized me and yelled "sam...? and i said "hey!" so i jumped down and he introduced me to jake but i feel like an asshole because i cant remember this guys name. we listened to jazz together.

no fun

last night was not very fun for a while but then i decided to make it fun and it all the sudden it turned into a fun night. i went outdoors to catch a little bit of the night air. i was feeling really anxious and such from a long day of nothing, so for the first time ever in a long time (a yearish) i put on a pair of tennis shoes, and went for a run. usually i run barefoot, i love the different feelings under my feet. i stopped off at the hockey rink just because it looked like it was open. there wasn't really anything special in there, but i also couldnt make to the basement and such, there were just too many people. so i left.

and i ran.

until i got to the building that begs me to go inside, the military science/various athletics building. all doors were locked.

i ran more.

right down to scene metrospace. i fortunately got there right as a shit show was ending, and i caught peter (he runs the place) while he wasnt busy. we chatted about the noise fest, and he gave me some positive answers. too many people in spot meant i left right away and i walked around east lansing for a little bit. it started raining a little bit. so i started to head back.

i ran a little more.

and i spotted another building that looked fun. another big fitness building. i walked around the building and eventually found an open door. i wanted to try to make it up towards the roof but no luck. it was all locked up, i'll try again tomorrow. i went down to the basement to have a look around. it was dirty, and the ceiling was a maze of pipes. most of the doors were locked but there were a few interesting rooms.

the first room was a rowing room, with the big pools of water and pretend boat in the center. the room was pretty trashy and it didnt look like anyone used it. it was mostly filled with sporting equipment. i didnt stay long because it was super dark and i was getting nervous being by myself.

walked some more halls heading towards, what i guessed by the sounds, the mechanical room. as usual they were all locked up with asbestos warnings on the doors. there was one door that had a slightly loose screen on the bottom portion, so i pulled it loose and climbed through. another storage room. mostly old wrecked trampolines and boxes of tennis balls and a few deflated basketballs. then there was this incredibly loud machine that shook violently and scared the shit out of. so i took off.

and i ran home to listen to cattle decapitation's homovore, allen ginsberg's songs of innocence and experience, and my trouble books cds.

on different note... as brandon and i were heading out to his car after the quinn and tuites show last saturday, there was this guy kicking the shit out of a car that this little girl was sitting in. he was screaming and making quite the ruckus. i ran back inside use the restroom, and this guy was standing by the entrance.

girl - "jimmy! whats wrong...?"

jimmy (in a rage): "i smashed the fuck out of every panel on my car and i will fuck any car here, she better come back..."

all i could think of was how pissed he is going to be when he wakes up in the morning.

then i headed back to meet brandon and this girl is walking with two guys and she flashes me and the two guys stare at me like they the shit, and i laughed.

i'll turn faster

this week somehow turned into "tune out all of the bad in the world and be happy week". i think it started when i remembered how fun it is to dance and and sing and yell and make noises and cut my hair. because my mom didn't like my old hair so i caved in and cut it for her. it was hard to cut the back with only scissors. and i think it also had to do with my buddy/room mate jose disappearing. he left tuesday to go party for halloween and has not come back yet. i don't expect him back until sundayish. since i was happy i decided to make my self happier and not go to a couple classes through out the week and instead watch my favorite movies and listen to my favorite music and then when i was done practicing music i realized that the only thing not happy about this week is that i dont have a job yet even though i am really broke right now. so to cheer my self up i go to my favorite place in the world. a record store. specifically fbc right here in east lansing. my buddy john from rattling wall collective works there and i go in and listen to records and chat with john because he is super in to noise to but he is also super into being mean spirited some times but in a silly way so i like him but he plays in a band that kind of pisses me off. and today when i went in it was really cold out side but that was ok because i really like the cold. i like the feel of it on my face and i enjoy the challenge of keeping warm. before going to listen to lots of records with john i decided to stop and one of my other favorite places in the world but it is really only a place i like to go sometime, called (scene) metrospace. it is a nice little art gallery housed in an old bank. their newest exhibit is a mixture of kendall students and msu students and i was fairly impressed especially by one of the kendall kids that had taken all of his sketches and made a photocopy collage out of them. the results were quite nice at least nice enough to let me look at them for about 20 minutes. then peter came in briefly and i said hi but i needed to talk to him more but he took off right away. metrospace is hopefully going to be the home of our kick ass noise party fest in january but there is a possibility it wont be because the building they are currently in is being demolished. you see, the building was being donated by the city for the art galleries usage(3 years of usage) and now they want to tear it down. but metrospace will live on, just in a different building that need major renovation. i went outside and it was still cold and i decided to take a more adventurous route to fbc, through the back alleys. on my way i passed many intriguing open doors that i decided i would enter on my way back from listening with john. so i walked the rest of the five or six blocks and i listened to music and then left. and the first open door i went in was part of a parking garage. i went in and it was a hallway with many doors but they were all locked and the hallway dead ended. the next door was part of another parking garage and it was another hallway very similar to the first but this one had open doors leading to storage rooms so i looked around but found nothing of interest. walked back to practice a little bit then went to dinner. yesterday involved me sleeping until 1 and missing two classes then watching lonesome jim then going to class just to listen to jazz for an hour. this was followed by a nice dinner with some wonderful people and a night of making noise and listening to music because i can listen more when jose isn't here but i also have to transcribe some bass lines and then memorize lots of things which i will hopefully do this weekend. as well as memorizing, this weekend is also dedicated to further exploring the city i live in, so hopefully my tubes came in the mail so i can ride my bike downtown and enjoy things. but before i do that i promised myself i would cut off my toes if i didnt make an attempt at finding a job tomorrow morning so that is number one priority. halloween was joyous but in a no candy for me way. class then dinner with wonderful people then amelie. being happy makes me sing and whistle as i walk down the street, usually on my way to class, it also makes me dance in the streets and it makes me cheerful around others and it bloomed from being back in grand rapids saturday, when i got to see the best puppet show of my life and drink the best apple cider and have magical cookies and then see the best lord of the yum yum and then get to play the most fun show in the world and scream and thrash and be with friendly people and then see the second best puppet show in the world and then see the even better lord of the yum yum and then realize how much i hate bars and then stop watching the news all week and tuned out all my problems and love the beautiful snow and brisk temperatures and make pretty colors and think about factotum the movie and read Enemies: a love story and a picture
