i have a plan that i am super surprised i am going forth with. hopefully by sharing it with everyone in the world i will feel obligated to go through with it.
going on a noise tour in august. on my bike. solo for now. unless someone wonderful comes through and is like i want to go! the plan is to arrive in portland/eugene oregon area on september 11 (wasnt a preplanned date but it just happened to work out like that which calls for a special welcome to oregon celebration)
it looks something like this
grand rapids ---> chicago = 200 miles 3 days
chicago ---> st louis = 300 miles 4 days
st louis ---> kansas city = 250 miles 4 days
kansas city ---> omaha = 190 miles 3 days
omaha ---> denver = 550 miles 8 days
denver ---> salt lake city = 540 miles 8 days
salt lake city ---> portland = 770 miles 11 days
from there im going to put together the second leg of the trip... down through california then back east via the south west.
ive already started booking shows so that is a super step forward from just forming these plans in my head less than a week ago.
this involves dropping out of school. which i am 98% happy about, 2% bummed about. while i am giving up the intense musical environment that being a music student involves, i am gaining freedom from the darkest parts of hell. 95% of my time spent at msu was a waste but the 5% was good enough to keep me there. i will miss not having 24/7 access to a teacher, but i feel that i am committed enough to doing shit to get ahead. from day one, i felt like i didnt fit in there. everyone around me had huge dreams of being the greatest and making millions off their music but i have never ever had that desire. my personal future does not worry me. i am excited. a day by day life is the life for me (at least for now).
i decided on a name too. JESSE STEPHANOPOULOS. (because i always confuse jesse katsopolis's name, john stamos's hunk of a character on full house and leader of jesse and the rippers, with george stephanopoulos's, senior political advisor to clinton during the 1992 campaign and chief washington correspondent for abc news but i know him from childhood before school rituals involving watching good morning america with mom. two pop icons merged into one, kind of like marilyn manson but way better.)
training rides for this trip started hardcore yesterday with a good paced 30 mile loop through cascade and beyond. today i brought my mom along for a horribly hilly 40 miles downtown gr to rockford (just in time to see all the little kids go parading on their decorated 4th of july bikes) to cannonsburg to cascade to home. the second half was brutal.
i also have a new theory: in michigan the wind blows in every direction at the same time.
