Listen Up, Legislators Everywhere!
Oregon has become the first state in the U.S. to employ representative government as a means of banning the use of gestation crates for breeding pigs. Other states including Arizona and Florida have used voter ballot initiatives to ban the practice, but Oregon state Senator Ginny Burdick did it the hard way by introducing a bill and shepherding it through both houses.
