ABBA (An MP3 Post about Swedish Music)
SWEDISH MUSIC

ABBA is pretty much the only swedish band anyone has ever heard of. Who else is there? I sure didn't know of anyone until recently.

But, the truth is there are tons of amazing Swedish bands! I start noticing them first with Mr. Jens Lekman. I have blogged about him already a few times. He's my favorite musician right now.
Jens Lekman - Run Away With Me

The Knife are another band from Sweden that is gaining some momentum. They seem to be taking the more 'mysterious' route. They don't do interviews and rarely play live. To me they sound like 90's party music, but awesome.

Jose Gonzalez makes quiet, acoustic music. It's very nice:

Suburban Kids With Biblical Names have a great name and make pop music similar to the Magnetic Fields...sort of. It seems like any band that has a deep voice and plays Bacharach-esque pop sounds like the Magnetic Fields. Check them out, they have great videos. Plus they made the theme song for all the kids using computers to make music!

Acid House Kings are apparently "Sweden’s no 1 guitar pop band". They are great. They just released a CD that comes with a DVD that contains Karaoke versions of their songs with words. That's what I'm talking about! That's going to save the music business, more media!

Acid House Kinds - Sunday Morning

The Radio Dept. are a bit more rockin' then the rest of these bands.
The Radio Dept. - Pulling Our Weight
The Radio Dept. - Why Won't You Talk About It?

Pelle Carlberg has a cool name. These are his musical influences, in some kind of chronological order:
Cat Stevens, Simon and Garfunkel, ABBA, The Beatles, Nationalteatern, Grease (the movie soundtrack), Gyllene tider, Magnus Uggla, Depeche Mode, Krafwerk, Simple Minds, U2, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ratata, The Smiths, Camouflage, Dileva, Jakob Hellman, Marc Almond, Imperiet, Pixies, The Go betweens, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, The Church, Demorgue, Sugarcubes, Ride, Teenage Fanclub, Björk, Cornelis Vreeswijk, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, bob hund, Nick Drake, Eggstone, The Cardigans, Blur, Popsicle, Burt Bacharach, Doris, The Bear Quartet, Belle and Sebastian, The Velvet Underground, The Beautiful South, Nicolai Dunger, Van Morrison, Credence Clear Water Revival, The Strokes, Neil Young, Doktor Kosmos, Håkan Hellström, Jens Lekman, Suburban Kids With Biblical Names, [Ingenting], Anna Ternheim and The Hidden Cameras.

Those are just a few. I also recommend anything on Labrador Records and Love Is All
Now, when you're talk about Swedish music you can talk about more than Abba.

I had a Swedish penpal who used to send me Dia Psalma mp3's. From what I could get, they're pretty much the stereotypical 90's rockers.
I didn't know Abba was a Swedish band.. I feel so obsolete now.

I think I've heard Jans Lekman. Does he sound like Jonathan Richman?

Incredulously titilating!
You probably don't listen to much progressive metal, but Meshuggah are a band of Swedes that embody everything that is intelligently badass all at once.

Can't say I'm a huge metal or progressive rock fan.
